What is PLE?

PLE means Personal Learning Environment

A design of a PLE should be based on the following characteristics:

1. It should be learner centered

2. It should provide the environment for a life-long learning: So when the learner grows up, it should grow up, too

3. A PLE should be designed very individually according the needs of the learner

4. Therefore it should be location-independent, so that the learner can use his personal PLE from every place in the world

Definitions:

According to W. Neuhaus (FU Berlin) definition of PLE we can understand PLE as a very personal infrastructure, which I can use to organize my learning. It might be divided in two dimensions:

The personal dimension: personal surrounding my concrete, my friends, my colleagues, my working place, the library I use to work in, etc.

And the virtuell dimension, which gives access to communication tools and searching machines and multimedia-based information.
